The Importance of Saying Thanks
Two years ago I sent out some basic Christmas cards to people who meant a lot to me. As a result, I sent cards to family, friends, and even some people I hadn’t contacted before.
One of those was Warren Buffett, chairman of Berkshire Hathaway.
Warren Buffett Knows How to Say Thank You
Warren and I don’t know each other. He taught me a great deal about investing through his Letters to the Shareholders in the front of each of the annual reports for Berkshire. I appreciated that free eduation and I wanted to say thank you.
Consequently, I sent him a Christmas card expressing that appreciation.
Within just a few days I received this hand-written card in the mail:
Even the wealthiest people have time to send a thank you note!
It might seem like Warren Buffett is too busy to respond to one of the many communications he receives all the time from unknown friends of his. The fact that he wrote me a hand-written note meant the world to me.
Accordingly, Warren Buffett is now my friend. We communicated at Christmas time the following year as well.
His example is a great one for people to follow. If he has time to write a quick note of appreciation, the rest of us do too!
